In Mato Grosso, corn planting is almost complete
The data collected by Instituto Mato-grossense de Economia Agropecuária (Imea) up until the 18th show that sowing of the 2nd 2021/2022 corn harvest reached 99.34% of the planned area in the state of Mato Grosso. The current planting pace is 1.77% higher than in the same period last year.
In the national context, the consulting firm Safras & Mercado evaluates that the harvest may exceed the current estimates. The favorable climate and the planted area above the initial forecast should contribute to greater production, resulting in an increase in supply at a time when demand is also high due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The forecast is that the second harvest in the Brazilian south-central region will reach 83.3 million tons, representing a 44% increase compared to the previous cycle.
