SLC Agrícola holds Quality Meeting 2023 in Brasília
Leaders of SLC Agrícola participated in the Quality Meeting 2023, held on December 5, 6 and 7, at Hotel Windsor in Brasília (DF). The meeting was divided into three topics – Seeds, Grains and Cotton – and discussed practices, management, technology and other issues related to these crops. Aurélio Pavinato, the CEO, participated in the meeting together with executive officers Álvaro Dilli (HR, Sustainability and IT), Leonardo Celini (Operations) and Gustavo Lunardi (Procurement and Seed Production) and employees from the respective areas. The main objective of the meeting is to exchange knowledge among all the participants to participate in debates and deep dive into concepts and practices that involve the quality of these products.
First day - Seeds
On the first day, CEO Aurélio Pavinato opened the meeting by highlighting its importance for the company. He was followed by Jacques Prikladnicki, Planning and Budget Specialist, who hosted the panel discussion on “Historical evolution of the results of soybean and cotton seeds”, followed by the panel discussion on “Indicators of the seeds segment and crop data” hosted by João Vanin, Seed Production Manager, Eberton Romanini, Seed Production and Quality Coordinator and Katia Nicolini, Seed Processing Coordinator. After that, Vanin spoke on the topic of “Analysis of Shift Technology portfolio and opportunities”.
The first to speak at the Seed Quality Meeting was Alexandre Gazolla, on the topic “Strategies to improve the quality of seeds”. Gazolla is an agricultural engineer with master’s and doctorate degrees in Science and Technology of Seeds from the Federal University of Pelotas and the Faculdade de Agronomia Eliseu Maciel, respectively.
Still in the morning session, groups of participants were divided into teams to analyze two case studies on “Improvement of Soybean Quality”: “Point of harvest” and “Analysis of mechanical damages in the field.” In the afternoon, Eberton Romanini invited the representatives of each group to report their analysis of the cases and define the action plans.
Subsequently, João Vanin and João Victor, Seed Production Coordinator, hosted the panel discussion on “Cotton Seeds: sector numbers and indicators.”
The second speaker of the day was Paulo Afonso Watanabe, who talked about “Quality of cotton seeds: evolution of the sector”. Paulo Afonso has a degree in agricultural engineering from the State University of Santa Catarina and has been working at TMG (Tropical Melhoramento & Genética) for more than 15 years.
Later, Tiago Agne, Sustainability Manager, held a panel discussion on “ISO 9001 in cotton seeds”.
The groups met once again to analyze two cases on “Improvement of cotton quality”: “Time of harvest” and “Varieties and production of seeds (differences and quality)”. Later, the panel discussion on “Quality of cotton seeds 2023” was held.
The much awaited part of the day was the delivery of “Seed Quality” awards. The Panorama Farm in Bahia (BA) was the Champion in Soybean Seed Quality at the 2022-23 Harvest, while the Palmares Farm (BA) received two awards - Champion in Cotton Seed Quality at the 2022-23 Harvest and 100/100 Load in soybean for supplying seeds with 100% vigor and 100% germination capacity.
The event was closed by Gustavo Lunardi, the Chief Procurement and Seed Production Officer, who summed up the agenda.
Second day - Grains
The topic on the second day of the event was “Grains”. The proceedings were opened by Leonardo Celini, Chief Operations Officer, after which Gustavo Arrial, Agroindustrial Manager, invited Marcos Santos, Guilherme Silva and Jarbas Lira, Regional Warehouse Coordinators, to talk about the “Quality of grains in 2022/23 harvest”.
Later in the morning, the participants were divided into groups to discuss the topic “The path to the perfect grain” based on cases. Early afternoon, representatives from each team presented their action plans for what had been proposed.
The speaker of the day was Sinibaldo Júnior, Agricultural Engineer who addressed the topic “Quality of grains and its effects on sale”. Sinibaldo is specialist and classifier of plant-based products, auditor and technical consultant in Certification of Storage Units in a Natural Environment (UAAAN) and instructor in Training of Official Classifiers of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA).
Next, Bruno Carvalho, Sales Manager, held the panel discussion on “Overview of sales”.
At the end of the day, the award for the Best Grain Processing Unit was given, which was won by the Pantanal Farm in Mato Grosso do Sul (MS).
The second day came to an end with a speech by executive officer Leonardo Celini.
Third day - Cotton
The topic for the third day of the Quality Meeting 2023 was “Cotton”. The proceedings were opened by Leonardo Celini, Chief Operations Officer, after which, Gustavo Arrial, Agroindustrial Manager, invited Edmilson Santos, Carlos Erich, José Valmir de Souza and Divino Gonsalves, Regional Cotton Mill Coordinators, to the panel discussion on “Cotton Quality in 2022/23 Harvest”.
Still in the morning, new working groups were formed to discuss “improvements and action plans” under the coordination of Gustavo Arrial, Agroindustrial Manager. After internal discussions, the representatives of each group were called to present their action plans.
Next, Bruno Franco, Cotton Business Unit Manager at TAMA, spoke on “Contamination by plastic: how to avoid it?”.
In the afternoon, Bruno Carvalho, Edson Lima, Ilson Duarte, Vanessa Piorezan, Tiago Sanches and Harlen Mota, representatives from the Sales, Take Up, Logistics and Export teams, held the panel discussion on “From the farm to the customer: Take Up, Logistics and Sales”.
At the end of the day, awards were granted. The Farm with the Best Cotton Management Quality was Palmeira (Maranhão). The Best Cotton Processing Unit (UBA) or Best Cotton Mill award went to the Pamplona Farm (GO).
Leonardo Celini closed the day and invited CEO Aurélio Pavinato to close out the Quality Meeting 2023.
