SLC Sementes conducts restructuring and signs new commercial partnerships
SLC Sementes, an SLC Agrícola brand, is starting 2020 with the announcement of new partnerships with the companies Syngenta and Nidera. Two new varieties will be produced in the next off-season, from May to August: Syn 1687 IPRO, which was developed especially for the country’s Northeast market, and Nidera 8383 RR, which targets the states of Mato Grosso, Tocantins and Bahia. According to Ricardo Oliveira, sales manager at SLC Sementes, the new cultivars will be marketed in 2020 and planted in the 2020/21 crop year.
The two products, which effectively expand the portfolio of SLC Sementes, will start deliveries to rural producers in September, according to the production manager of Sementes, João Paulo Vanin. “These are cultivars that really excelled at our units, both in the field and in research, and which clients have been requesting and trusting in their results, given their characteristics in terms of rusticity, resistance, intact technology, use for refuge and cycle compatible with the recommended regions,” he said, adding that each variety has a specific planting recommendation for high yield. “Our portfolio is planted in virtually all regions where we operate, thanks to the adaptation of each variety,” he explained.
Meanwhile, in partnership with Brasmax, SLC Sementes has recently launched two new cultivars: Brasmax Voraz IPRO and Brasmax Domínio IPRO. Ricardo Oliveira also said that the cultivars Ultra IPRO and Única IPRO, both from Brasmax and with high production potential, have been added to the portfolio too, “given our permanent concern with offering a more complete portfolio to producers.” The sales manager also noted that the company will continue to make progress in terms of expanding the production and supply of products, by forging partnerships with companies that invest heavily in agribusiness genetics.
SLC Sementes has expanded by 40% its team dedicated to this area at SLC Agrícola, seeking to consolidate its product positioning and expand its share in this market segment. The seed cultivation processes have been enhanced to deliver to producers varieties of superior quality, boost their yields and build their loyalty. With this strategy, the company plans to become one of the main players in the Brazilian market within five years.
Competitive advantages and deliveries
In 2015, the company started cultivation for own use. In 2018, it conducted its first test of selling soybean seeds. Since then, it has been investing in the business on a large scale. According to João Paulo Vanin, the company wants to share its technical expertise in production and management not only in the field, but also in terms of best administrative practices. “We always recommend what’s best in the market and share the information of our research areas,” he noted.
For this year, SLC Sementes is working on new production traceability systems. In all our production areas, we prioritize the commitment and trust of our clients in our products, certifications or licensed products. All the information on the quality of lots, germination tests, planting recommendations and quality indicators, for example, will be available in real time, through the QR Code technology of the lots acquired.
Vanin adds that the company works with production fields with high fertility and production potential. “Our focus is on precision agriculture, on the selection of fields using georeferencing platforms to analyze uniformity and homogeneity and on real-time monitoring of pests and disease. That really helps the results of high-quality seeds,” he said, adding that seeds are stored under refrigeration to maintain the proper temperature until the lots are shipped to rural producers. “Seeds are living organisms and require the proper temperature and humidity to ensure optimal germination performance.”
