SLC Agrícola celebrates 10 years of RTRS certification for responsible and sustainable soy production
The Company was one of the first in Latin America to join the association and help build the principles and criteria; currently, seven farms have RTRS certified soy
SLC Agrícola, one of the world's largest grain and fiber producers, has always been aligned with sustainable practices and voluntary certifications for sustainable agriculture, which are a way of reaffirming its commitment to the environment and the community. Among the certifications is the Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS) - granted by the international non-profit association that promotes the growth of production, trade and use of responsible soy. The system ensures environmentally correct, socially adequate and economically viable productions.
In 2021, SLC Agrícola celebrates 10 years of RTRS certification. On December 14, 2007, the Company was accepted as a member of the RTRS and had its first certified farms in 2011, making it one of the first companies in Latin America. It currently has seven certified farms: Planorte (MT), Paiaguás (MT), Planalto (MS), Pamplona (GO), Panorama (BA), Planeste (MA) and Parnaíba (MA).
SLC Agrícola was a pioneer in participating in forums and round tables that have, since 2007, debated new ways of producing responsibly and sustainably, such as the RTRS round table on responsible soy. The Company helped to build the principles and criteria for responsible soy production and, as an associate member, participates in the task force to strengthen the RTRS in Brazil to make this platform the most internationally recognized certification standard in the soy production chain.
According to Álvaro Dilli, Director of Human Resources and Sustainability at SLC Agrícola, the certification, in addition to meeting legal requirements, helps to reach more demanding soy markets and reduces social, environmental and economic risks. “RTRS reinforces the Company's commitment to the values that are present in our business plan, known as our Big Dream, which is to positively impact future generations and become a world leader in efficiency in agriculture and respect for the planet”, he comments.
In the 2020/2021 harvest, the Company produced 478.8 thousand tons of grain in approximately 123.9 thousand hectares certified by the RTRS. The oilseed cultivated by the company with RTRS certification can be sold or purchased in two formats: physical material or in the form of credits.
“SLC Agrícola's good agricultural practices in soy production contribute immensely to the environment and the community, especially those near the farms. RTRS places the company as a pioneer in the future market of certified and sustainable agriculture”, concludes Dilli.
