Piauí celebrates a 20% increase in grain production
The evolution of agribusiness in the state of Piauí has been celebrated, especially after the new local agribusiness record, with grain harvest reaching 6 million tons.
The information from Aprosoja, which also mentioned that the 10% expansion of the planted area in the state, combined with a favorable rainfall regime for the period, contributed to the increase in production reaching 20% compared to the previous year.
In the 2020/2021 harvest, Piauí had already obtained a record result of 5 million tons of grains, mainly soy and corn. Then in the 2021/2022 harvest, the result, leaping to 6 million tons of grains, is considered one of the best averages in Brazil. With soy alone, Piauí surpassed the 3,500 kg per hectare mark and corn was between 7.5 tons per hectare.
Driven by the growth of corn, sorghum is another grain that tends to have record production with an estimated harvest in Brazil of over 3 million tons according to a survey by Conab. The product is used to make animal feed, mainly for chicken, and it has the advantage of being more resistant to drought. Piauí is among the states with the highest growth percentages in sorghum production, with 227.2%, below the percentage recorded in Mato Grosso do Sul, with increments of 362.6%, and above those of Bahia, with 98%.
