Mato Grosso leads accelerated off-season corn harvest
The second 2021/22 corn harvest in Brazil has already achieved the status as the fastest in history, according to Pátria AgroNegócios consultancy and reached 3.30% of the area throughout the national territory, compared to just 0.27% at the same time last year and 2.15% in the average of the last five years. The state of Mato Grosso leads the harvest with almost 6% of the area harvested.
According to the USDA, U.S. corn shipments in the week of 05/19 totaled 1.82 million tons (t). The volume represents an increase of 34.06% in the weekly comparison.
According to Instituto Mato-grossense de Economia Agropecuária (Imea), the state's corn harvest, the largest producer in Brazil, had reached 5.98% of the area by last Friday, a weekly increase of 3.61 percentage points.
The corn harvest in Mato Grosso is well ahead of the historical average for the period (0.58% of the area).
