Survey carried out by Conab shows soy and corn as leaders in grain production in Brazil
In a new survey carried out between January 23 and 29, and released Thursday (10) by the Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab), the estimated volume for grain production in this year's harvest could reach 268 million tons. And soy and corn crops represent about 87% of that amount.
The number presented shows an increase of about 11 million tons compared to the record of the 2020/2021 harvest. If the numbers prove to be true, the production will be the largest in history. A loss of 5.7% since the last estimate was identified and released in January. Even so, the new number represents an increase of 5% in relation to the previous harvest.
Conab´s CEO, Guilherme Ribeiro, said that the losses were caused by the drought that hit several regions of the country during the last months of 2021. As a result, there was a 12.3% drop in soy production compared to the initial estimate made in October, in addition to a 9% decline in relation to the previous harvest.
Soy from this harvest is already being collected. As for corn, the first harvest should reach 24 million tons. The second should have an increase that could reach 86 million tons.
