National cotton export reaches 1.38 million tons
According to Secretaria de Comércio Exterior [Foreign Trade Office] (SECEX), the estimated volume of plume cotton exported in the 2020/2021 harvest was 1.38 million tons. The value represents a 28.87% decrease compared to the same period of the previous harvest. The decline in production and subsequent reduction in fiber supply in the country is the greatest influencing factor in the scenario.
The state of Mato Grosso accounted for about 71.48% of the total exported by the country, with 988.32 thousand tons shipped. The number is about 23.75% below the volume exported in the same period of the previous harvest. Harvest production in the state suffered a drop of 22.70%. Despite this scenario, exports in March 22 were 10.36% higher than in February/22, totaling 150.80 thousand tons.
