CEO of SLC Agrícola participates in event on environmental preservation in the Cerrado region, organized by Valor Econômico and Brazilian Coalition
The CEO of SLC Agrícola, Aurélio Pavinato, participated in a panel discussion organized by the newspaper Valor Econômico in partnership with the Brazilian Coalition on Climate, Forests and Agriculture, on the production potential of the Brazilian Cerrado region, the importance of environmental preservation in light of recent climate changes and the initiatives taken by companies and entities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region, which is home to 75% of Brazil’s agribusiness and accounts for 24% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to Pavinato, Ludmila Rattis, researcher at the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (Ipam), Juliana Lopes, director of ESG, communication and compliance at Amaggi, and André Nassar, president of the Brazilian Vegetable Oil Industries Association (Abiove), participated in the event.
In his speech, Pavinato said the world will need over 60 million tons of grains per year by 2050, reinforcing Brazil’s role in this mission of feeding the world, with the capacity to supply 40% of this demand. He pointed out that climate change cannot be overlooked while talking of increasing agricultural yield. He also emphasized that improvements in agriculture will help increase yield without the need to clear fresh tracts of land currently covered by vegetation. “We have the equipment and resources to improve our production systems to make them increasingly sustainable. Production and conservation are not conflicting functions,” he said during the live event.
