Embrapa Cerrados presents results of study on reducing weed infestations in soybean crops
A study by Embrapa Cerrados (DF) showed that the intercropped planting of grains with forage grasses is capable of reducing the incidence of weeds in soybean cultivation. After two harvests with the systems, it was possible to observe a decrease of up to 87% in the dry weight of these invasive species. At the same time, the technique resulted in gains of 8% in average oilseed productivity. These results indicate that forage grasses, in addition to acting as soil cover plants, can be inserted into intercropped systems or in succession as one of the strategies for sustainable intensification of the agricultural system.
