SLC Agrícola bets on the Crop-Livestock Integration (ILP) model to increase productivity and diversify production
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Brazil is the largest meat exporter on the planet. Therefore, more and more companies specializing in crops, such as SLC Agrícola, are migrating to livestock and the main factor for this change is the Crop-Livestock Integration (ILP). SLC Agrícola joined this model in mid-2020, initially with 15 thousand head of cattle and today it has reached 35 thousand.
“The Crop-Livestock Integration model is in clear evolution, with meat sharing the same space with extensive low-efficiency crop areas”, says Aurélio Pavinato, CEO of SLC Agrícola.
The initiative to join the ILP contributes in many positive aspects to the quality of the harvest, since this management model helps in crop rotation and feeds the soil in a more sustainable manner, so it promotes environmental, commercial and productivity gains for both land and animals.
Aurélio Pavinato, says “we do not need more land, we need to increase productivity in the spaces where we operate." This is one of the main benefits of the ILP model as it seeks to optimize land use, diversify production and also reduce pressure on the opening of new areas.
