SLC Group formalizes creation of SLC Institute
SLC Group, the parent company of SLC Agrícola, one of the world’s largest producers of grains and fibers, with a focus on cotton, soybean and corn, and SLC Máquinas, a chain of farm equipment dealerships serving 213 cities in Rio Grande do Sul, announces the creation of the SLC Institute, its social arm whose purpose will be to support communities near its operations through initiatives focusing primarily on education. However, its first action will focus on public health, given the need to join forces with organizations across the country in the battle against COVID-19. In this effort, the SLC Institute is donating R$1.6 million to hospitals and municipal health departments in 18 Brazilian cities to help them acquire medical equipment.
The amount will be divided between institutions in Porto Alegre, Horizontina, Cruz Alta and Passo Fundo, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul; Luís Eduardo Magalhães and Formosa do Rio Preto, in Bahia; Luziânia, Posse and São Domingos, in Goiás; Balsas, in Maranhão; Costa Rica and Chapadão do Sul, in Mato Grosso do Sul; Tangará da Serra, Sapezal e Querência, Sinop and Diamantino, in Mato Grosso; and Santa Filomena, in Piauí.
“One of our guiding principles is to support and develop the communities where we are located. And in this context, the SLC Institute was created to offer local communities improvements and initiatives that increase people’s quality of life and bring economic and social prosperity, while fostering diversity and sustainable development. Especially in times like these, we cannot fail to act,” said Ana Logemann, President of the SLC Institute.
The SLC Institute is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan association with the goal of supporting the development of people, charities and communities, preferably through the use of education as means to create opportunities and possibilities for transforming people’s lives.
“The initiatives will target mainly low-income children and youth, with a focus on culture, basic education and vocational education, in addition to healthcare,” added Ana.
A commitment to the community has always been a part of the history of the SLC Group. Last year, the company allocated just over R$800,000 to projects in the areas of culture and health and to protect the rights of children, youth and the elderly, drawing on tax incentives under Funcriança, Elderly Fund, Culture Incentive Law, Sports Incentive Law, National Program to Support Oncological Care (PRONON) and National Program for Healthcare for Persons with Disabilities (PRONAS/PCD). The amount was raised under tax incentive laws applicable to the income tax levied on its operations during the year.
