Seed Production Manager at SLC Agrícola is a guest on the Planeta Campo program, on Canal Rural
SLC Agrícola's Seed Production Manager, João Vanin, was one of the interviewees on the Planeta Campo program, shown on Canal Rural, in a story that addressed how new technologies for genetic improvement in seeds can contribute to reducing the effects of global warming and climate change in farming.
Vanin addressed the initial focus of the studies on genetic improvement in seeds, such as productivity and resistance to diseases and pests. “Drought has become a focal point in the research and development sector, seeking to reduce the water deficits detected in crops as much as possible. The current scenario shows cultivars adapted to each region. And the role of the producer is to work along with the research areas to successfully identify the needs of their soil and the seed to be cultivated”, he explained.
HB4 soy was used as an example to talk about genetically linked transgenics, whose objective is to increase the adaptability rates of each cultivar, so that they can better understand the environment, regulating the internal consumption of water and increasing the time window of the withering process in periods of drought. “Despite the technological advances achieved in the field, there are no 'miracles' during long periods of drought in the fields”, Vanin pointed out. The interview, conducted by journalist Pablo Valler, is available on Canal Rural´s YouTube page.
