Irrigation: a step towards the future of agricultural production
In July, SLC Agrícola announced to the market one of its strategic initiatives: the expansion of its irrigated land. More than just a growth target, it is an investment that transforms production methods, and enhances the efficiency, stability and security of crops.
The implementation is being carried out gradually. For the 2025/26 crop year, it is projected that new structures will be installed on over 3,360 hectares. In the next few years, the irrigated area is projected to expand by over 33,795 hectares, reaching a total of 53,180 hectares — a 231.9% increase over the current area.
Irrigation boosts production and yield, mitigates climate risks—especially in cotton farming—and increases land value, offering returns that exceed the initial investment. It also allows for expanding the sowing area, diversifying crops and ensuring greater production stability.
In practice, the results are already significant. At Paysandu Farm (state of Bahia), for example, irrigated cotton areas reached 360 arrobas per hectare — three times more than the dry farming areas, which yielded 120 arrobas. Soybeans also posted gains: 73.69 bags per hectare in irrigated areas, compared to 35.2 bags in dry farming areas.
"With this expansion, we are taking another step toward a future marked by greater security, efficiency and profitability, reaffirming our commitment to integrating technology and management in order to continue growing sustainably," says Leonardo Celini, Chief Operations Officer at SLC Agrícola.
