SLC Agrícola invests in seed production
In 2019, SLC Agrícola started a large-scale production of soybean seeds to be sold outside the company. With the SLC Sementes brand, the company’s main focus is directed towards the states of Mato Grosso, Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí and Bahia, although there are also interested buyers in the states of Minas Gerais, Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul, as well as some areas in the state of Pará. Last year, we produced a small volume in order to assess quality and sales operations. This year, production reached 300,000 40kg bags, 60% of which was sold. The company absorbed the remaining bags for its own use.
Ricardo Oliveira, Seed Sales and New Business Manager at SLC Agrícola, explains that the production of seeds to be sold to the Brazilian market started at the Pamplona farm, in Goiás, and that now production occurs in other company units located in six Brazilian states. “Nowadays we have producers who directly purchase our product, but we also have access to some distribution channels, such as Cargill, a large multinational company operating in Brazil. Thanks to this, the scope of SLC Sementes ends up being even more comprehensive”, he stresses.
According to Oliveira, the company has been dealing with approximately 100 clients this year, and this sales area has a business potential that may reach 1 million bags. “This volume will balance the cost-benefit scale, with no losses in terms of quality. The wide range of varieties used by producers today may reach up to 15 different cultivars. We use our farms to showcase what we are going to do with SLC Sementes, and the area where we provide services is the same area where we grow our products”, he states.
Oliveira says that SLC Sementes is a product that SLC Agrícola trusts and uses, with guaranteed resistance and quality. “In a way, buyers are sharing, along with SLC Agrícola, good sustainability and production practices, teaming up with a large manufacturing group that is present throughout Brazil”, he emphasizes, recalling that the company also has a technical team specialized in providing support. “Our goal is to grow”, he concludes.
