National territory shows an increase in the planted area of cotton
According to SAFRAS & Mercado consulting firm, the national territory currently has a sown area of 1.56 million hectares of cotton in the 2021/2022 cycle, corresponding to a 14% increase compared to the previous season. The state of Mato Grosso is highlighted, reserving 71% of the total area within its own territory. Bahia participates in the production with 20% of the total area.
Total fiber production is projected to reach 2.838 million tons in the 2021/2022 harvest, 17% higher than previous production. The advance is due to factors such as high cotton prices in the international market and planting within the ideal window of the 2nd cotton harvest, made possible by the faster development of soy. The harvest begins in May and is expected to intensify in June.
